New York in January

Maria went to New York to see shows and ended up dancing with Stina Nyberg, Irene Hultman and Kate Pyle at the wonderful showcase In the Works @ La Mama studio instead.

The showcase has a wonderful vibe and the organisers Meredith Boggia and Magnus Nordberg managed to put together an exiting and eclectic programme. :).

The annual reception at The residency for the Swedish council general was NOT missed either….

Thank you Valerie Green/Dance Entropy!

Creative processes are always a challenge.

This one had a very short time ’til deadline and the dancers and Maria Naidu had never worked together before… A setup that’s a challenge in itself.

Armed with a choreographic structure, some favourite songs and love for dance Maria teamed up with the dancers of VG/DE and together they created ”HOME”- 9 days and 40 minutes.

Thank you Dancers for your trust,Valerie for your willingness to collaborate and The Swedish Arts Council for your support.

The most basic meanings of home is a place that can’t be seen with a stranger’s eye for more than a moment. Home is home, and everything else is not. It’s is so familiar that you don’t even notice it. It’s everywhere else that takes noticing. Home is more than just a place. It’s also an idea. A way of organizing space in our minds.

Home is energy. Energy is movement. Movement is dance. Dance is home.

First day of continued artistic cultural exchange.

As a continuation of the exchange, started this summer, with NYC Valerie Green/Dance Entropy , Maria will work with the companys dancers for 9 days and 40 hours.

“Home” (working title) is an international collaboration between Dance Entropy and choreographers from various diverse countries. The concept is to approach the idea of home on Dance Entropy company members from unique perspectives, based on each choreographers’ individual idea of what home means to them. The idea of home is intentionally broad, and could be inspired from many different angles. Co-choreographers hail from Sweden, India, Lebanon, and countries in South America and Africa.

The choreographers are invited to NYC to work with the dancers in 2-week intensive periods, to be followed by a performance showing. Each choreographer will create their own section on the dancers. After the completion of the final intensive period, Artistic Director Valerie Green will then mold and thread together the entire work into one complete, cohesive work of dance art, to premiere in 2020.

The result will be presented at Take Root@Green Space in New York on the 18-19 October.

The evening will also present a new work by NYC choreographer Petra van Noort http://www.petranyc.comas well as a solo choreography, A Toast to absent friends Choreographed by Maria Naidu 2009. Tickets and more information can be found at: https://www.greenspacestudio.org/october
